Imagine Unique Selves joining together as co-creators to realize their own full potential selves, with a shared sense of the inviolability and value of each individual’s Unique Self. When such a group comes together, and no one’s unique self is diminished, but all are leveraged, there emerges a Unique Self Symphony.

Unique Selves in a Self-Organizing Universe

The core structural principle involved in the formation of a Unique self Symphony is the scientific principle of self-organization. The idea of self-organization is according to many the single most important scientific idea to emerge in the last sixty years. It exists at every level of reality and across all four quadrants. While many scientific accounts focus only on self-organization in systems and structures in biology or cybernetics (i.e., Lower-Right reductionism), there is a whole history of work in psychology and social theory dedicated to modeling how minds and cultures are complex dynamical systems, that evolve and self-organize in remarkable ways.
Multiple scientific fields, when held in an Integral embrace, tell us that self-organization is a basic principle of reality at all levels. Most forms of evolutionary emergence are a function of this ubiquitous tendency of all life and matter toward self-organization. This leads to the idea of an inherently creative cosmos, always evolving and organizing at higher and higher levels. Throughout the evolution of the world it appears that self-organization is often catalyzed via the leveraging of uniqueness. When you look at the emergence of complex processes in nature that display remarkable forms of self-organization, such as an ecosystem like swamp or rainforest, they are always complex symbiotic systems in which there are an endless number of unique niches.
This is why one of the core ideas behind the new politics of outrageous love is enabling self-organization at the level of human culture. So we must ask, what enables self-organization at the level of human culture? The answers is clear and in keeping with both the best of what we know about evolutionary theory and the best of our ideas for political and personal Enlightenment: the catalyst of self-organization in human socio–cultural systems is the Unique Self. Paradoxically, this means that the “shape” every human needs to assume in order to contribute to the creation of a healthy social organism is unique. Strange as it may sound, a just and healthy society needs to “socially engineer” for uniqueness, especially the institutions that shape human personalities and self-understandings: schools, news media, entertainment industries, computer technologies industries, etc. The whole social system would be like an incubator for uniqueness.
Social Justice and Superorganisms: On The Moral Phenomenology of Participating in The Evolution of The Cosmos (Dr. Marc Gafni & Dr. Zachary Stein)
A self-conscious Unique Self Symphony is the feeling of being ethically integrated in a larger totality; having a sense of social justice is having a sense for the presence or absence of harmonious social integration. What would it really mean for our humanity if we became swept into a superorganism as if becoming cells organised for the benefit of some larger organelle?
We can foresee a time on Earth when Unique Self Symphonies are occurring on a massive scale. Imagine everyone who is attracted to realize their potential sounding their unique note. The “symphony” is the result of nature’s extraordinary capacity to form whole systems out of separate parts when in a “field” of resonance. This magnificent genius of nature has brought together cells, multi-cells, animals, humans, biospheres for 14 billion years. This is the trend we a calling upon consciously.
“We have called this evolutionary phase change a Planetary Awakening. It could even be called a “planetary pentecost,” in which each person speaks in their own voice the inner words of Spirit. The walls that divide us would come down. We would find that we are already members of one planetary body of extraordinary brilliance and capacities, when we overcome the illusion of separation. Since it is an illusion, it can happen quickly when the time is right. We may read with new sense of reality”.
Evolutionary Unique Self & The Unique Self Symphony
The notion of Unique Self Symphony was first iterated by Dr. Gafni in the tenth week of Awaken your Unique Self online course, in 2013, and was first included in writing in the Outrageous Love Book by Dr. Gafni and Dr. Kristina Kincaid in slate for publication in 2022. Here is an excerpt of the first draft: “When every person is guided by their irreducibly unique perspective and irreducibly unique taste to give their unique gifts, a Unique Self Symphony is formed in which everyone is needed and no one is extra. The power and potency of this symphony releases a creative and entrepreneurial innovation that literally has the power to heal virtually everything. Innovation and evolutionary creativity in every sphere of life, emergent from the Meta mind of Unique Selves, collectively released into reality is what will take us to the next evolutionary step.
Evolutionary Intimacy is, thus, realized with the recognition that you are playing your instrument in the Unique Self symphony. Remember, you are not called to fix it all yourself. You are called by your uniqueness. You are charged to action by your uniqueness. You are needed only to play your unique self-instrument in the Unique Self Symphony.
The first step, in playing our unique instrument in any Unique Self Symphony is in opening your heart to feeling the outrageous pain of the world, and realizing that you have outrageous acts of love that are yours, and yours alone, to commit. With this realization, your Unique Self is aroused and you awaken to the full potency of your participation in the Unique Self Symphony. From the chorus of Unique Selves, a new sound is heard, the sound of the Unique Self Symphony. The Unique Self Symphony, in turn, arouses a global evolutionary intimacy, which is an emergent property of love, heretofore unseen in human history. When billions of Unique Selves awaken to their evolutionary context and give their unique gifts which emerges from their unique insight then the outrageous love and infinite creativity of the Unique Self Symphony is born”.
